Book of the Month

For our next regular meeting, our stroke group will be reading Jill Bolte Taylor's My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist's Personal Journey. I have not read this book but have heard a lot about it. It should be interesting. It is available on amazon.com or from your local book store. We would love to have you join us. Our regular meeting will be November 6th, so I'll post discussion questions around that time.

Hi All,
I have this book, but have only made it halfway through. I'll pick it up again and read along with you. My friend and 21-year-old stroke survivor, Savannah Hollis, read it and said it was an excellent book. Another one on my list is 'Take Brave Steps for Stroke Survivors and Families' by Ron Gardner. Happy reading and welcome to blog world. -Sara in Colorado

Thank you for the suggestion of this book. I'm excited to read ANYTHING written by another Stroke Survivor. Your regular meeting is the day after my 55th birthday, and I look forward to your discussion questions.
Sincerely, Lori

This is an excellent book! It explains what it feels like to have a stroke with great detail. It was alarming but needed to understand what my mom must have felt like when she had her stroke (a year ago at age 57). It also gives a few tips to caregivers - from a stroke survivors perspective.

Sara,
Thanks for mentioning my book, Take Brave Steps for Stroke Survivors and Families- A Message of Motivation and Hope. I wanted to let everyone know that I am grateful for their interest in my book. I have shared a great deal of very personal information and advice for everyone on how my family and I were struggling with the mental, emotional and social challenges and adversitiies following a life altering illness but were not overcome by them. I also created the Take Brave Steps Process which includes self-reflections, exercises and other helpful tips that serve as a foundation for family dialog.Because stroke affects the entire family, I also introduce my wife Patti and daughter Molly to share their perspectives and advice on how to cope with changes in the family and prepare for the road ahead. I also would like to mention that Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor is a good friend of mine and she has prepared a testimonial for my book and graciously granted me permission to include her Stroke Survivors Bill of Rights in my book. For additional information on my book and unabridged audio SC version, please go to www.takebravesteps.com Both the book and audio CD are available for purchase on that site. I would also be glad to participate in a Take Brave Steps discuyssion group. Please let me know via the comments page on my web site. My web site also contains free motivational articles for download and radio interviews on the media page. Thanks again and I look forward to sharing my message of motivation and hope with everyone.

Hello,
I am new to this so bear with me. I was given a copy of Ron Gardner's book Take Brave Steps. Wow this book is so real, Gardner has helped me and my family so much... I don't feel like life is out to get me, I wake up with a much better attitude, and it seems my family is more patient. I don't want to sound like a commercial or a preacher but stroke survivors should buy this book it is such a blessing! Bobbyr, Philadelphia Go Phillies!!!!
